Description

The Graduate College is delighted to host this exciting open and honest discussion about possibilities for successful and rewarding careers outside the academy.

Heather Brown earned her PhD in Rhetoric and Composition at the University of Maryland in 2010. Upon graduating she was fortunate to land a tenure-track job at Monmouth University in central New Jersey, but after three years as a full-time academic she decided she was far more curious about a post-academic life than she was certain that she wanted to remain in the profession. In 2013 she left New Jersey to move to Chicago and began working as an instructional designer and curriculum consultant. In January of 2015 she completed her coaching certification at the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching and now coaches graduate students, faculty, and other creative professionals in non-profit fields who are in stages of career transition.
